Questions
Why are you running for office?
The short answer is that I want to represent the people and protect their rights. I want to listen to my constituents so I can make the best decisions while serving you at the Roundhouse. Mostly I'm running because I'm passionate, and I care about this state and its people.
Based on all the meetings and speaking engagements I have had as an activist, and people I have talked to, I feel that I would be the best choice to represent the people living in District 22.
How do you plan on working together with politicians in the opposing party?
I was born and raised by very liberal parents. When I became an adult, I realized those values never really aligned with my core beliefs, so I chose to walk away in 1997. However, I never hated my parents for their opposing views or political party; I understood that they saw the world entirely differently than I do, and there were things we would never agree on. But it helped me realize that people's beliefs are powerful and a strong motivator for their actions. For example, my firm belief in the Bill of Rights, and the Rights of the People are the reasons I founded Pro-Gun Women. I have some very passionate issues I will not bend on; the Second Amendment is one of them. I will not compromise on my core values, the constitution, or on something the majority of my constituents want. I also understand that the opposition also has firm beliefs, like pushing for unconstitutional bills, and these types of issues will be win or lose; there is no compromise.
"I am used to fighting for your rights, and when elected, I plan on continuing the fight. "
Then there are some issues that all sides agree on, and there is no opposition. An example is a bill that passed the last session for a Cancer Awareness DMV license plate. Everyone wanted that bill, and it passed unanimously as it should have.
Other times there are bills or budgets presented that need to be amended to fit the needs of the people and not the politician. I will work hard to stand up for the rights of the people and do what is best for them, and for New Mexico.
Are you accessible to the people?
